Lymph gland biopsy

I had this taken 24th April.   I don't know how long I will have to wait for the results.   I spoke to a cruel GP today, who said airily that it could take 6 weeks.   Not that she cared.  Surely not that long?  Even when they do get back, I think there could be more tests depending on that first one.  Also, over and over again,  I read of surgery 'if you are healthy enough', but I can't find out exactly what they take into account.   Are they just ageist?  How is it decided?

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

Biopsy results may take 2 weeks or longer depending on how busy the hospital is. Sometimes getting the results is not straight forward as the biopsy may need additional testing or be sent to another lab to be checked. This makes the process of getting the results longer.

If after 2 weeks you don't have results you may wish to contact your hospital team to find out what is happening.  Remember, that if you have a hospital appointment coming up, your results may be given to you then.

If you find you are waiting and it is worrying you, you may wish to talk to the hospital's Patient Advice and Liaison Service   (PALS) who may be able to look into your situation for you.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hi, how are you doing, hope you are doing ok, I have just had a biopsy for the same thing done yesterday, Friday. I hope you don't mind me asking but where to did you have your biopsy done?  My biopsy was on my groin, they had to do it 3 times, also so I started bleeding today (Saturday) as if I was having a period did that happen to you aswell?. The doctors told me that they are worried and that it don't look good, so I am absolutely terrified *** I'm a single mum of 2.

How are you holding up? Hope you are doing ok as can be x

  • Mine was in my neck,  lung cancer.

It went v well, apart from the reason, obvs!  I had it done in Durham,  and he showed me how loud the punch was, so I didn't jump at the wrong minute!  Seeing oncologist on Thursday "to discuss the results".

Must be awful for you,  with 2 children to look after, how old are they?  I know during treatment they'll want me to look after myself properly.   But how, if the treatment knocks me out?

  • It went ok, but I'll know better after I see the oncologist on Thursday.

  • Well my daughter is not so much a child as she's 25 and already my carer and my son is 9, the doctors have got me terrified as they said it's bad and don't look good, and they look on their faces said it all, my leg has just came fully back to life after 2 days, the lump is massive and they have checked to see if it has spread so I'm also waiting for results from the scan aswell. I had a gut feelng it is cancer but I just hope it comes back its not and hope that they can get rid of it.

Good luck for Thursday I will be thinking of you, please let me know how you get on that's if you want to. Xx

  • Hi how did you get on after on Thursday ? I hope it went good.
