OCD over Johnson's talc

Hi,

I suffer with OCD which I am getting help with, my main worry is asbestos and it being present in talc. Johnsons talc has had lawsuits due to possible asbestos traces in their talc, and I know they switched to cornstarch in 2024. However I am really struggling with something that occurred yesterday. I took my three young children to a barbers to get hair cut. They had bottles of Johnson's talc next to each barbers next to razors and scissors. I only saw this as two were having hair razored I had never noticed this before. The tools ie. Scissors were right next to some white powder spilt on counter that they were using on my little one. They appeared be using same gowns, did not see them cleaning equipment, and were constantly sweeping the floor around us. I felt a bit panicky even though didn't see talc being used. Now what concerned me was that it did not look like constarch talc they had, but rather older talc stock no longer being sold. My little one also had his pushchair which was wheeled in where they were sweeping and then put back in car boot by my mother which I am now worrying may have possible traces on wheels. That because of the gown and not cleaning tools it might be school clothes etc. Please tell me if I am overreacting as I don't know due to my ocd and my mum is saying I'm stupid.  Thank you in advance

  • Morning. I suffer from OCD myself so couldn't go past this post without replying on it all because I know things can seem silly to some people when they don't suffer from it. Can I ask if you're in the UK?

  • The only reason I asked. I had a look online and there was a few articles about it. The one that stood out was that in the UK all asbestos was made illegal in all products (even 'talc') in 1990. Hopefully that puts your mind at ease about things. I know how it feels when you get something in your head and you start to worry about it constantly. I also know with OCD you seem to fix one worry n it's quickly replaced by another so I hope you get at least some time without having something else to worry about. Take care and hope the message helps.

  • Hello Cardigan1

I am sorry to hear you have OCD, this must affect your everyday life.

From what you have said I don't think there is any reason for you to be worried.

Please talk through your OCD with your doctor and see if they can help you better manage this.

    Take care

    Naomi
