Tissue growth after proton beam

Hi, a week ago i was told by my surgeon and my oncologist that there has been tissue growth or cancer growth (They don’t know yet) Is there a chance that tissue can grow in the area where you had your cancer before? They said I had to wait two months for my next scan to see if it’s Grown or stay the same, But just wondering if tissue can actually grow after radiotherapy

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

Sometimes after radiotherapy, there can be some inflammation of tissue or some scar tissue forming inside, close to the area where the cancer was treated.  So, it is reasonable for the doctors to see what it looks like in a few months.  If they were worried that this could be cancer they would tell you this so try not to worry too much.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
