Effects of letrozole

Can taking letrozole be the cause of a polyp found in my uterus and thickening of my endometrium.

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I have checked on the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecology (RCOG) website for any information about Letrozole causing thickening of the womb in terms of a cancer risk and it says that it does not.

I cannot see a connection between letrozole and uterine polyps, but that does not mean to say there isn't, it is just that it is not something I have found when I searched for it.

It would be a good idea to discuss this further with your gynaecology team as they are experts and will have a much better knowledge of the possible causes of your womb thickening and polyps for you.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • I also have atrophic vagina and womb and think this is attributed to the letrozole.  It wasnt a problem before I started taking the tablets and is steadily getting worse

  • Hi and thank you for your further post,

Vagina dryness is listed as a rare side effect of Letrozole so it could be what is causing the vaginal atrophy.

Do have a chat with your nurse specialist about the side effects as they may be able to advise you how to manage this. We have information on our website about how to manage vaginal dryness and there is also some information on the Breast Cancer Now website which may help.

    Take care, all the best,

    Jemma
