Probably just paranoid

Hi

I have been having pelvic pain for around around 6 months usually a new sign I'm due on (not been regular until I had my coil fitted) the pain then started coming and going at anytime of the month for the past 3 months. always same place same side and I was worried as also had pain during sex.

I had swab tests and it was noted I had a lot of discharge (sorry tmi I knew this as had to wear a liner) one swab showed yeast but no symtoms of thrush.

My smear was due so I went for that and all was negative. I also had a transvaginal scan to check my ovaries- all looked fine too. I have been having spotting for 2 days (not all day just a few times) only a week and a half after my last period with lower back pain and general fatigue.

Am i being paranoid or could the smear/overy scan have missed something.

Thank you

  • Hello Space90 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have. It sounds like you have had several tests that have all come back okay, which is reassuring.

The transvaginal ultrasound is able to view all the female organs and if anything unusual had been seen this would have been noted and further tests recommended. In regards to cervical screening the primary check they carry out is to check for high risk strains of HPV ( Human Papilloma Virus) which causes the majority of abnormal cells to develop in the cervix, with a HPV negative result the risk of cervical cancer is low.

Whilst the cervical screening test is being carried out the nurse or doctor performing this is able to view the cervix and if they had noticed anything out of the ordinary they would have said and referred you to colposcopy ( where the cervix can be inspected more closely). As everything seems okay this wasn't necessary.

Unfortunately no one here can say what might be causing your symptoms however with all ongoing and persisting symptoms we suggest speaking with your doctor again if things aren't settling down.

Your doctor is the best person to reassess you and arrange further tests as and when needed.

    Best wishes

    Naomi

  • Thank you for your reply. I am now experiencing nausea and still spotting every few days. I feel like I'm wasting the doctors time as they have done tests and said all seems OK. I'll just see how it goes.

    Thanks again.
