Spontaneous haematoma, swelling and bruisings- am feeling very concerned.

Hello,

For past year I have had difficulties with daily nosebleeds, night sweats, terrible fatigue and unexplained bruisings. My GP initially worried I had Lymphoma, was referred to rapid cancer service and had a CT scan and this was ruled out. I was then referred to Rheumatology as urgent for rate case of Rheumatoid Arthritis, this was ruled out. I am currently awaiting tests for lupus and my GP has made an urgent referral to Haematology as I have for last few days huge swelling in my lower leg with a large spontaneous haematoma and increased I explained bruisings. The fatigue is all.thr time now and I am struggling to work. GP said yesterday " something is seriously wrong...we need to see what Haematology find" and indicated she thought that maybe I did have Lymphoma. I can't settle and my lower leg continues to swell, my ankle almost sane size as my calf yo give you an idea. I don't know what to do. I have a Haematology appointment on 9yh May. Looking for reassurance I guess, or just something.

Thankyou

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

It sounds like you are going through a lot with the symptoms you are having causing you concern and waiting for tests for lupus.

Waiting for appointments and tests can be difficult and very stressful. If your leg continues to swell and becomes painful, do get checked again by your GP, or go to your local Accident and Emergency department.

I am afraid we cannot say whether or not the symptoms are being caused by cancer, but you have done the right thing by getting things checked. I am afraid all you can do is wait until you have your appointment in May. I know this is difficult as you are struggling with work at the moment. It may help to get support from family and friends at this time.

You would also be welcome to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Take care and I hope you can get answers to the cause of your symptoms soon.

    Jemma
