  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear about your dad.

A glioma is a malignant brain tumour. We do have information on our website on gliomas and other brain tumours here

There are different tumours that affect the spinal cord, and these can be benign (non cancer) tumours that grow slowly. Usually brain tumours start in the brain and not from the spine. If you have your dad's permission, then you could ask his consultant, or hospital specialist nurse, more details about his diagnosis.

The Brain Tumour Charity also has information on the different brain and spine tumours, and provides support.

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide specific information on life expectancy, as that is something that his specialist is best placed to comment on.

I hope that this is helpful,

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Vanda
