Referred for 2ww clinic - so frightened

I found a lump at the weekend which after seeing the GP they’ve measured as 3cm x 3cm but mobile. Had a lump there before but I used to be able to squish it away and it would disappear, and then suddenly this is much bigger than I thought! Really worried about the appt. I’ve managed to get one for Tuesday at the breast clinic, but so worried this is it, and I’m going to leave my husband and kids behind. We are such a close family, I’m in bits trying to carry on as normal. Anyone else so scared? I’m never ill so this is a real shock.

  • Hi Josie. I found the lump (4x2cm) at Easter weekend and just had a biopsy result on Friday to tell me its Grade 1 ER+ cancer at 39! I also have 2 small kids and a husband and I am also very scared! I think it's normal. It's made worse by my  mum having died of metastatic breast cancer in 2019. I never anticipated getting it this young!   I'm waiting for a NHS appointment to arrange MRI scan and mammograms and a genetic blood test.

Please know you arent alone! And what you are feeling is normal.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the lump in your breast and I can appreciate that this is a worry.

Wating to be seen and then have scans and investigations done can be concerning, however, please know that not everyone seen in the breast clinic will be diagnosed with cancer.

It is reassuring to know that you will be seen at the clinic soon. In the meantime, you might find it helps to get on with every day things as it can take your mind off what is happening.  I, hope you have support from family and friends.

You may also find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
