Secondary bone and liver cancer

My mum went for CT scan and the results were that she has secondary bone and liver cancer it’s still under investigation as to where the primary cancer is. I’m googling things and I know that’s not the best thing to do.
What is survival rate, she has lost a lot of weight but says she feels fine within herself. I’m worried she may not be fit for treatment due to the weight loss.

just really looking for advice/guidance as there isn’t anyone else I can really speak too.

thankyou x

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I can appreciate your current concern about your mum.

Unfortunately, I can't give you a specific comment on your mum's outlook. Her specialist is the most appropriate person to comment. Doctors will assess how much someone can cope with taxing treatments such as chemotherapy and will talk things over with the patient. Sometimes, a reduced dose can be given at first, if someone is quite frail. The specialist will want to try and find out which type of cancer it is. However, sometimes this is not possible, without doing invasive procedures such as biopsies or surgery. In this situation, it is referred to as cancer of the unknown primary, and treatments such as hormone therapy, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy can be used to help.

We do have information on our website about secondary cancer, and it covers both secondary bone and liver, and it's treatments.

I hope that this reply helps,
