Worried about bowel movements

Good Afternoon

My story is a bit complicated so please bear with me and I'll try to explain

I had covid last September and had bowel movements that were green in colour and I had to go to the toilet rather quickly

After I started to feel better things went back to normal until I got ill again in December with what seemed like a mix between flu and the winter bug and having to rush to the toilet sometimes very soon after eating

So ive had colds etc on and off since and had bowel problems rear their ugly head each time and one embarrassing accident where I didn't feel like I needed the toilet and only started to feel better in March this year and things settled down for a while

I've always had a sensitive stomach and nerves and worry soon make an upset stomach for me but I now have problems from foods I never used to have and I can be okay and have normal movements but then mushy and urgent ones

I am really worried about bowel cancer I don't seem to have the other symptoms like blood and weight loss etc but life has been very stressful and I am really worried

Thank you for reading this it feels a bit better to have written this all down

Thank you

Angela

  • Hi Angela and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn that you are worried about your health.

Many people contact us because they are concerned that symptoms they have might be caused by cancer.

We are unable to diagnose you and the best advice we can give is to go and see your doctor.

Although this can sometimes seem frightening, in most cases the symptoms will be caused by something else other than cancer.  Many bowel symptoms can be caused by colitis, crohn’s disease or diverticulitis. But it is always sensible to get any problems you have checked out to be on the safe side.

You may like to read more about how to deal with stress which may help to alleviate some of your symptoms.

I hope you can get this sorted out soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best, take care.
