Hi I’m 50 years old & had cancer 7 yrs ago in my bowel. Last week had a substantial bleed

Hi I’m 50 years old & had cancer 7 yrs ago in my bowel.  I had resection & stoma reversed so all good apart from the rectal prolapse.

Last week whilst on holiday abroad I had a very substantial bleed (bedding, sofa, bathroom).

Since then I’ve just had really bad back pain & today I’m still bleeding but only when wiping.  But i can see & feel a darker (new) lump pea size - I’m worried it may be something silly like a small stone but would that work itself out as a foreign object???

Should I ignore it for now??

thanks

  • It must be scary but have it check, all the best

  • Hi Clair and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to hear about your past treatment for cancer and your recent symptoms, which must have been very unpleasant for you, especially being on holiday.

Whilst there could be several reasons for the bleeding, and even though it seems to now be settling, I think it is best to get it checked out.

Arrange an appointment with your doctor when you can so they can carry out some tests, just to be on the safe side.

I hope everything turns out okay for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,
