Advice about Zoledronic Acid

Hi I have stage 4 breast cancer and I have nearly reached the end of being offered anymore treatment. However the oncologist has suggested Zoledronic acid, just looking for advice if you think it would make a difference. Thanks Gail

  • Hello Gail and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your situation, this must be a tough time for you.

Unfortunately without being involved in your care and without being a doctor we can't say whether taking the zoledronic acid will make a difference for you. Your own specialist doctor should be able to talk through why they have suggested this for you and explain why they think you should have it, so do ask them.

We have information about Zoledronic acid on the website. As you can see it is given for several different reasons, including preventing bone loss and protecting the bones against fractures  and pain caused by cancer spread or other cancer treatments. It can also help to reduce high levels of calcium in the body.

Do speak with your specialist team about this when you can. Other forum users who may be going through similar to you may also jump on here and share their experiences with you too.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best

    Naomi
