What is an EBC. Gynae referral?

Hi, I had a ultrasound then Transvaginal scan, they found a pool of fluid plus said uterus with fairly heterogenous myometrium echoes,

Fundus of the endometrium appeared irregular, refer to EBC, can you tell me what the ebc referral is please? Many thanks

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I think that EBC may be an ultrasound technical term used to comment on womb (endometrial) thickness. If there are areas of the womb that are thicker than other womb areas, then they might want to suggest to take biopsies, at another procedure to look at the cells more closely. A biopsy of the lining of your womb may show that the cells are growing more than would be expected, this is called endometrial hyperplasia. Endometrial hyperplasia is a condition where the lining of the womb called the endometrium gets thicker. This happens because more cells have been produced. There are different categories of hyperplasia, mild hyperplasia can be treated with a hormone, whilst more abnormal hyperplasia tissue may be removed, as there is a chance it could develop into cancer over time.

Hopefully you will get to find out more soon,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
