Biopsy for Thickeni g of womb.

Having been for ultrasound on Saturday due to spotting (very slight and brown) after 13 months of no period.  Today I was told I have to have a biopsy due to thickening of the lining of the womb.  I also have to have a blood test to check I'm not anemic. (I don't feel anemic) I don't feel unwell and now I'm worried sick and have been goggling all sorts.

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I am sorry you are worried about an ultrasound scan and biopsy that you have had for spotting.

A thickened womb lining is always biopsied to find the reason. Most commonly it is caused by Endometrial hyperplasia. This can sometimes increase your risk of endometrial cancer which is why it is investigated and treatment, like a Mirena coil, is recommended.

Until they assess the biopsy they have taken and report on it, it is difficult to say what may be happening to you. But, searching online for the answer can cause more anxiety, so do try and keep this to a minimum.

Take care and try and keep yourself busy until you get your results. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.

  • Hello Sarah, thanks for replying.  I know there's nothing I can do but wait at the moment.  It's just so worrying.
