Not taking tamoxifen

I see that some people take body identical hrt, Low dose. Which I do. And are allowed to take tamoxifen as well.

Ihad a lumpectomy ,0 lymph nodes,  and radiotherapy one year ago and haven't taken tamoxifen because of the side effects. I'm 66.

It was E+ P+  her2-  IDC 2cm oncotype 14.

Is it a possibility for me.

Any information would be very gratefully received.

Thank you so much

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm afraid we won't be able to tell for sure if you can take low dose HRT and tamoxifen together. It may depend on the dose of HRT given.

But as you probably know HRT is not usually recommended for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Hormone therapy such as tamoxifen is given to reduce the risk of breast cancer coming back after surgery and the risk of developing a new cancer in the unaffected breast. Not taking it might increase the risk of the cancer returning but by how much depends on what this risk is which again depends on the individual features of your breast cancer. Do discuss this with your specialist breast care team. If you have a specialist nurse involved in your care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

I hope this has been of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
