What does this really mean breast radiologist report

Hi, can any nurse or brest professional explain what a grade 4 tissue result means with level D density throughout..

I've looked on Google which has just scared me more !!

All I've been told is that it's very concerning for cancer & have been booked in with a breast sugeon to discuss my last biopsy results taken one week ago.

Help & advise please as I'm scared to death very worried. My sppointment is tomorrow & I don't know enough. What do I ask?

  • Can I just put it out here, please don't google, It will send you nuts, most information truly is not up to date.

  • Hi and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate how worrying this can be.

It's important to note that Cancer Research UK primarily funds research and clinical trials, so we cannot provide a medical opinion or read pathology reports.

The MAYO clinic and Prevent Breast Cancer both have information about the density of breasts which you may find helpful.

Breast Cancer Now has questions you can ask if the results show cancer is present.

I really hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Tina

  • Hi March_Hare,
Just a quick message hoping your appointment with the surgeon went as well as possible. You will probably feel much better once you have a treatment plan.

  • Confirmed invasive breast cancer but need more biopsies & contrast mammograms & tracing for spread etc in both breasts & lymphs so really don't feel better as no plan yet and so very stressful as 2 weeks to get back the results. This all started 14 weeks ago & it's been extremely difficult with cint tests ^ awaiting results. I'm now on my 3rd set of biopsies...is this normal?

  • Such as stressful time for you. The waiting is horrible. Especially when you do not have a treatment plan yet. But you will get through this.
I am not a professional. But biopsies provide the medics with much more information, compared with, say, relying on scans and blood tests.
It sounds likes they are taking very good care of you, which is great. But this doesn't change the fact that the waiting is awful.
Wishing you the very best. x Harry

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis of breast cancer and the ongoing stress whilst they do the further diagnosis tests needed.

It is not unusual for further testing of the breast cancer cells to be needed to be able to accurately diagnose the stage, type and grade of cancer that someone is dealing with.

This information is essential to help the doctors in piecing together as much information about your cancer as possible so that they can choose the most accurate treatment for you.

I appreciate that this feels like things are being dragged out, and waiting for results is hard. However, getting the correct diagnosis is important.

During this time I hope you have support. As well as this forum, Breast Cancer Now has a forum that might be useful to hear from others with a breast cancer diagnosis.

We also have a helpline with nurses if you want to talk things out. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

Take care; hopefully, this will all be sorted for you soon, and a plan in place, but until then, it may be useful to look at our Prehabilitation page as you prepare for treatment.
