My partner is undergoing chemo and wondered if he could dye his beard? Thank you
Hello and thanks for your post
Chemotherapy can weaken hair follicles and can also cause skin sensitivities. It is not normally recommended that people dye their hair (including beard hair ) during their treatment. But it might be a good idea for your partner to speak to his chemotherapy or specialist nurse who will know his situation better.
Some men might not want to wait to dye their beard. Your partner can ask his barber/ hairdresser about henna dyes or vegetable-based dyes. These are gentler on the hair than the standard types of hair colouring. So hair specialists think it is safe to use them. But it is worth your partner testing before he uses it. He can test the dye on a small section of his beard first to see how his skin reacts to the colour.
I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Kind regards,
Celene
