I've got a spot on my head, awkward place to see even with a mirror. Only small, irregular shape kind of oval. Dry, crusty slightly sore. Been there maybe 4 weeks or so. Don't want to look stupid going Dr to be told it's just a spot!

Hi Trixieh,
I'm not a nurse but I have been a skin cancer patient for many years. I just wanted to reply to you while you await the return of the nurse on Monday.
Please don't think the GP will make you feel stupid by getting it checked out. They would rather check it out & either put your mind at rest or refer you to a dermatologist than you leave it & then find it's something serious further down the line.
Hopefully it's an easily treatable skin condition but please make an appointment with your GP.
Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
Hello TrixieH and thanks for posting on the forum,
It is always a good idea when spots don't appear to be healing or going away on there own to get checked out by your GP. That is what your GP is there for.
GP's have guidelines when they are looking at lesions and if they are unsure about what they are looking at they will refer you to a dermatologist.
Your GP is in a better position to examine it, as you said yourself that it is in an awkward place.
Never feel that you are stupid going to see the doctor. They may say that it is just a spot but that will be reassuring for you to hear.
With best wishes,
Catherine
