Womb biopsy

Is it correct that you will be notified sooner if it’s bad news? I had a biopsy for endometrial cancer 4 weeks again and haven’t heard anything yet regards the results, even though they said 2 to 4 weeks?

  • Hello Suzie and thanks for your post

I don't think anyone can presume that because they have been waiting 4 weeks for their biopsy results that they would be notified sooner if anything was wrong.  Hopefully, everything will  be fine but you need your hospital team to confirm this for you.

It’s not unusual to wait 4-6 weeks for biopsy results. In some areas, there is a shortage of consultant pathologists to read and interpret results. Some biopsy specimens do need to be sent off to larger more specialised pathology laboratories for analysis, and this can add to waiting times, depending on the number of samples that each lab is currently seeing.

Waiting when you are worried is stressful but hopefully you will find out more soon.

I hope everything turns out to be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
