FIT test and Calprotectin test, understanding results.

Hi all.

So after suffering with a lot of symptoms, GP had me do a Qfit test and Calprotectin test. My Qfit test has come back at over 400 and Calprotectin levels at 703. I am now on 2ww cancer pathway with coloncopsy next week. Just trying to understand it all. Google is telling me that both are much higher than is normal?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

The calprotectin test is used to assess inflammation in the bowel and qFIT is a test for hidden bleeding (blood can be mixed in with poo and not always visible),  Generally these tests are often done to assess bowel symptoms and to help doctors decide who needs to have a colonoscopy

Neither the calprotectin nor the qFIT test says what is causing inflammation or bleeding and I see you are going to have a colonoscopy next week to find out more. There can be many reasons for bowel symptoms and a range of bowel conditions that can cause the bleeding but something more serious such as cancer does need to be ruled out.

Easier said than done but try and keep an open mind for now until you know more.

Give us a ring if you want to talk any of this over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
