Glioblastoma brain tumour

My dad got diagnosed with glioblastoma brain tumour last September. He is currently in hospital with pneumonia and been told he also has a lesion on his brain and another tumour has started growing. Are we expecting my dad to be towards the end ? He is very aggressive and very confused it’s heartbreaking watching and seeing my dad like this .

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am very sorry to hear about your dad's situation and appreciate your concern for him.

Although it does seem that your dad's situation is serious I am afraid that because we are not involved in his care, it is not possible to know if your dad is nearing the end of his life.  So, please do talk with the hospital team about your concerns. They can update you and your family about what is happening.

Having someone you love go through the symptoms he has must be difficult. Sometimes when someone is very unwell with an infection they can get confused and aggressive. So, hopefully, the treatment for the infection will see those symptoms improve.

However, when cancer is in the brain it can also cause confusion and aggression. Therefore, I wonder if your dad has been referred to the hospital's palliative care team. I say this because they are experts on controlling symptoms, so they could help your dad to be more comfortable.

You are welcome to get back to us if you need any more information or support and you may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
