Hi Sienna and thank you for your post..
I am sorry to hear about your husband. I can understand how you would want to support him. It can be distressing to see a close family member in pain.
Unfortunately, I am not part of your husband’s medical team so I am unable to advise on pain relief.
A health professional needs to assess him and decide which sort of pain-relieving medicines or approaches will be best for him.
Pain is a highly personal experience and there is no set time frame for getting it under control. It may take a while to identify the most effective pain relief or combination of medications for a patient to alleviate their pain.
Your husband must inform his medical team about the intensity of his pain and how it is affecting his quality of life. They can then reassess him and, if necessary, refer him to the pain specialist team or palliative care team, who are experts in managing symptoms such as pain.
It may help to take a look at our information on treating cancer pain.
I hope you get this sorted soon. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Kind regards,
Tina
