I have an appointment at the 2week/fast track Breast Clinic in a days time. I was sent there just over a year ago with Breast Pain, a feeling of puffiness/something under my arm and a long indented straight line when pushing my breasts together. I had been on HRT about 2/3 months, but stopped it as soon as I got these symptoms.
I had consultant physical exam + mammogram, which were clear. As the symptoms persisted, I paid for a private consultation and had an ultrasound (about 6 weeks later), again all clear. I then had a nurse exam/follow about 2 months after that (from the original consultation) and she discharged me, saying it may be hormonal/age as I’m 55 and perimenopause/menopause transition. I also had usual NHS screening mammogram 4 months ago (all clear)
The pain did subside and the ‘indent’ didn’t get any better or worse. I have bad joint pain (low back, hip, shoulder) so was put back on HRT about 4/5 months ago and about 5 weeks ago the full feeling under my armpit started again and I was alarmed to see the indent on my breast appearing when I bend forward (so breast falls) and not just when I push them together. Breast also feels ‘tingly’ at times. I stopped HRT and am now re-reffered.
So - to the point. It’s the same consultant I’ll be seeing. What should I ask to be done? I’m now almost convinced that things have been missed and I am in dire straits, crying, poking/prodding and always looking at my boob! What sort or questions should I ask to be 100% sure they will cover all the bases? I feel stupid for not pushing for a definitive diagnosis 1st time and accepting hormones/age as I’m worried I’ve left things to progress. Although, rational me thinks surely 3 professionals, 2 mammos, 1 US wouldn’t miss things?
Sorry for long post - just looking for questions I should ask to ensure I get the answers.
