Breathlessness

My dearest friend has had chemo for lung cancer and within last 72 hours has developed severe breathlessness. We are not at home so she cannot see the cancer team. Her cancer nurse did not seem bothered and has given no support.
I don’t know what to do

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your friend.

If she is not able to access her cancer specialist/hospital team directly, then she could try ringing the hospital chemotherapy day unit nurses for advice.

Otherwise, it would be making contact with a GP and getting assessed. If she is away from her own GP, then she could register as a temporary resident with a GP where she is currently staying, (if in the UK). Other option is to ring NHS 111 for further medical advice.

If not in the UK, then she should attend a medical centre promptly in order to get assessed.

    I hope this helps,

    Vanda
