Are there any clinical trials as an alternative to axillary lymph node clearance?
Hello Suzywoo and thanks for your post,
I am not aware of a trial that is looking at an alternative to lymph node clearance but of course I could be wrong.
At Cancer Research UK we fund research and clinical trials but we are not involved in recruiting patients in to trials. We do have a database that lists trials that we are aware of and have permission to put on our website.
You can look at our Breast trial database and if you think that there may be a suitable trial you could print it out and show it to your doctors. Do have a look at the location tab to see if there is a trial running near to where you live. If there was a trial that was suitable it is your own doctors who would be responsible for referring you to the doctor where the trial was taking place. If they thought you were eligible
There was a trial called Posnoc which has now closed. This was looking at how to treat lymph nodes in the armpit. The results from the trial are not available yet. You can see the trial details for Posnoc here.
I would discuss this with your breast care nurse or your surgeon at the hospital to see what they think.
You are also more then welcome to give the nurses a ring on the helpline. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.
All the best,
Catherine
