Letter from Doctor mentioned Amelanotic Melanoma?

I had a lump reviewed last week and the doctor advised they would book me in for its removal this Wednesday but she did not mention what is what so I assumed a cyst or something.  A letter has just arrived that was sent to my GP saying a 7mm Amelanotic Melanoma, does this mean this is what I have or would it be a guess?  It's come as a bit of a shock and now this procedure has turned into something I am more concerned about.  Is it usual for them to not mention these things in person?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

From what you have written, it sounds like the doctor you seen suspects you may have a melanoma. But they can't be certain until they remove it.

I'm not sure why they didn't discuss this with you when you went to the hospital. Do ask them about this when you go back tomorrow.

I appreciate this is a worrying time for you and hopefully you will know more about your situation soon.

Give us a ring if you would to talk things over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,
