Pain following radiotherapy to the spine

I had radiotherapy to my spine metastases on Wednesday but the pain is now much worse.  I am taking pain killers every four hours but cannot lie on my back or right hand side so getting very little sleep.  Is this normal?

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

The effects of radiotherapy can continue for several weeks after it has finished. It is not uncommon for you to experience an increase in pain as the radiotherapy takes effect. During this time, you may need to take more painkillers.

Do let your GP/hospital team know, if the painkillers are not strong enough, during this time.

I hope that you feel better soon,
