Stomach Cancer

Why is my 92 year okd Aunt not being given any treatment other than a stent?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

It is difficult for us to answer questions like this as we are not involved in your aunt's clinical care. Her specialist team are better placed to advise you on this as they are familiar with all her medical details. If your aunt has a specialist nurse involved in her care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

After a cancer diagnosis patients are discussed within a MDT ( Multi Disciplinary Team) where all the specialists come together to decide the best treatment plan for each individual patient. The decisions are based upon the type and stage ( size and extent) of cancer and how fit and well they are and if they have any other health conditions that may affect their treatment. Some older people can have health conditions that might affect their treatment options.

We have information on our website on stomach cancer that may be helpful to you. Macmillan Cancer Support also have an information booklet on Cancer and older people

I hope this is of some help to you. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
