Kidney cancer diagnosis

My husband is currently in hospital with acute symptoms of kidney cancer. He has a diagnosis, and this is the third time he has been admitted in 12 weeks, but treatment is taking an age, and I am concerned about his mental health. Feeling quite helpless!

  • I didn't really ask a question.... is this wait for surgery normal? He has had 2 CT scans, a PEP scan, an MRI and a camera but still we wait for a decision on what surgery they will do. Should we be waiting this long?

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear of the current situation. It can be quite demoralising when things do not seem to be coming together.

Do try and get some time to speak with his hospital team to get an update on how things are. If you husband has a very low mood, then do ask his team if there is any mental health support available within the hospital, that he could be referred to.

    I hope this helps,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda

  • Hello and thanks for your further post,

It may be that all these results are being discussed between different surgeons, or at a multi disciplinary team meeting (MDT), which involves various health care professionals, before a final clinical decision and treatment plan is decided.

I hope that you get to find out more soon,
