Endometrial cancer

I've recently been sent an urgent gynaecology appointment for a biopsy to look for endometrial cancer.  I know it's curable, but I'm so , so frightened. I've always been healthy. All thus started a month ago due to late perimenopause and a heavy period. I've nevwr been so scared, I'm.hoping it's not cancer, I don't want my children to have to go through this. I'm prepared to have a total hysterectomy. I suffer with anxiety and will always worry the cancer us coming back if it is that when the.biopsy comes back. I have everything to live for,  I'm just so scared.

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I can understand how unsettling it can be waiting for appointments.

Try if you can to not think too far ahead. There are other conditions other then cancer that may explain your symptoms and by having an urgent appointment can mean that hopefully you will not have too long to wait for an appointment.

I am not sure how I can tell you to stop worrying when you say that you are an anxious person but you may find the tips written by the NHS to help manage anxiety may help. Have a look at the NHS website called Every Mind Matters

Try if you can not to spend too long thinking about it all, try and keep yourself busy and your mind occupied whilst you are waiting.

You may find it helpful to take a friend or close family member with you so they can also listen to what the doctor has to say.

I hope that your appointment goes well.

If you would find it helpful to ring and speak to one of the helpline nurses then you are more then welcome to give us a ring.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the nurses are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Thank-you for responding,  I'm trying to nothing about it so much, but it's hard, thehospital rain me on Thursday and I'm due to have a biopsy on Wednesday 10th April, I'm very nervous as I've heard so many horror stories about how painful it is, I'm going toaskto be numbed down below so it isn't too painful.
