Clear cell RCC

I was diagnosed with RCC last year (an incidental find on a CT scan done due to severe abdominal pain which turned out to be a perforated colon which by the time that was diagnosed had already started to heal itself so was not treated)

I had a right radical nephrectomy at the end of last May.

My tumour was found to be 10cmx7cmx6.7cm. A while after surgery I was told it was G3pT3a.

I have since had 2 further CT scans (one at 3 months and then after another 6 months) which apart from an ‘undetermined’ Lower left pole lung nodule. Seem to say I’m OK.

I do now have back pain on my right hand side and feel tired lot….should I be concerned?

can anyone advise me of the odds of the cancer returning as my follow up consultations are always a bit vague?

thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting

After a cancer diagnosis, the fear of recurrence can feel overwhelming and it’s understandable to feel concerned about any new symptoms that may develop such as the back pain you are currently experiencing.

Back pain can have many different causes but it’s always a good idea to get any new symptoms checked out just to be sure.

As for the risk of your cancer returning, it's difficult for us to answer this as we are not involved in your clinical care. Your specialist team are better placed to advise you on this as they are familiar with all your medical details. If you have a specialist nurse (CNS) involved in your care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

I hope this has been of some help. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
