Hello and thank you for posting,
I am afraid it is difficult for me to comment on this, as it is your GP who is keen for you to have this particular blood test. I think if you are concerned about not being well enough to have it done then do talk this through with your doctor and maybe it can be delayed.
I understand that you are also worried about the effects of just taking in water on your stoma, but as the blood test is a one-off situation this would be ok.
Do discuss the need for this blood test further with your doctor so you fully understand the risks of brief stoma changes from fasting versus the benefits of knowing this result.
Take care and if you find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
Sarah.
