RE: How to use diet to boost B12/Folic acid levels

Hi,

RE: How to use diet to boost B12/Folic acid levels

My wife had Bowel Cancer surgery 4-weeks ago.  She's looking for low-fibre diet options to help boost B12/Folic Acid levels.  We've been looking at Beetroot juice but it seems quite fibre heavy.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

Martin

  • Hello Mtate101 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your wife's recent surgery and appreciate your question about nutrition.

There is general information about eating and bowel cancer on our website.

It is my understanding that if people eat a balanced diet that contains meat, fish and dairy including milk, cheese and eggs should provide enough vitamin B12 and folic acid.

You may wish to try and call the nutrition and living with cancer helpline on 0333 034 1988 and speak with a dietician in case they can advise you further.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi
