Worried about breast issues

Hi

i have recently been referred to hospital as I have a red area under my nipple and there is also a lump present.

coukd this be anything other than cancer?

  • Hi NiciC and thank you for your post

I'm sorry that you are worried about some breast symptoms you are currently experiencing.

Most breast lumps are found to be benign (non-cancer) and are often caused by fluid-filled cysts or a build-up of fatty tissue called a fibroadenoma and are harmless. You may like to read about breast lumps and non-cancerous breast conditions at the Breast Cancer Now website.

I think your GP is right to refer you to the breast clinic for further assessment.

I hope everything turns out to be okay.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Tina
