Starting Anastrozole

HI,

I am due to start Anastrozole.

I'm grateful that my biopsies showed no cancer cells but I've been told that i now need to come off HRT, have more mammograms, bone scan, bloods then start once the HRT is out of my system ( about 8 weeks).

I'm quite worried as I really struggled with menopause before I went on HRT and it has literally been as godsend. I haven't been given any advise as what to expect , other than what I've researched myself and I am worried about the side effects.

Please can anyone offer any advise / help.

Thank you xx

  • Hello Suelou, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry you are worried about the side effects of hormone treatment and how you will be without the HRT.

I think because this is incredibly individual it is hard to say exactly how you will be affected. Still, I can understand you would feel nervous about this with how your menopause symptoms were for you previously.

We have information on Anastrozole and living menopausal symptoms on our website if you haven't seen it already.

It may help to also post on the 'living with cancer' thread on the forum in case others come forward in a similar situation to you

The British Menopause Society  has guidance on non-HRT support for menopause symptoms if helpful

Hearing from others and support from those in similar situations through the UK breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now forum may also be useful to you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Sarah
