5 year old boy

Hey everyone,

Iv already made an appointment with my local gp, but I keep going over things in my head . I noticed my 5 year old has a lump just above his collar bone hes not sick and the lump seems to be round and movable under the skin, it is roughly 2cm in diameter. I know no one can say anything for certain with out doing tests. Am I over thinking ?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I’m sorry you are worried about your son having a lump above his collar bone. I appreciate this can cause a lot of anxiety, especially when it's to do with your child.

Swollen lymph nodes are common in children especially as their immune system is developing and they are exposed to coughs and colds and other viruses. It isn't unusual for these to remain swollen for a long time and in the majority of cases doesn't usually cause the child any harm.

But it is always a good idea to get your son checked out by the GP to be on the safe side.

I hope everything turns out to be okay. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind Regards,

    Celene
