What happens after lung surgery

Hello, I’m hoping someone can give me some more information as it hasn’t been made clear, my dad was diagnosed 2 years ago with bowel cancer, he had an operation and went through chemo unfortunately he was told a few weeks ago after having his 2nd year scan he now has lung cancer stage 4 in his right lung. We received the results back from the PET scan and thankfully it has not spread to any other organs so he is able to have another operation on his lung. My question is after the operation would this mean he is clear again from cancer? And would he need to go through chemo again. thank you for reading not sure who else to turn to

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to hear about your father and his new diagnosis of lung cancer stage 4

It is difficult to say what will happen after his surgery, whether he will need chemotherapy or be cancer-free. We do have information on lung cancer treatments which may be helpful to read.

Hopefully, you will find out more soon about what they are expecting to happen next, but it may be that they are waiting to make further decisions until after his surgery.

Take care and do get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number is Freephone 0808 800 4040, the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
