MDT

Hi.

My partner has just started chemo for secondary liver cancer (primary in the small intestine which was successfully operated upon) after which they hope to do a resection. A recent PET scan showed activity in a node on the abdomen which has resulted in a CT scan. We do not have the CT results yet but an appointment with the oncologist has gone in for next Thyrsday following a Wednesday MDT. Would an MDT meet to discuss scan results even if there was no cancer found in the CT? We're very worried that they are meeting and assuming the worst. It's a real kick in the guts as she's doing really well after the first fortnight of chemo. If the scan was clear (we were told previously that the PET could also show inflammation or infection). If it was clear is there any reason they wouldn't just tell us by email or over the phone?

Thabks.

  • Hello PSGood and thanks for posting

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I appreciate this is a worrying time for you and your partner and hopefully you will both know more on Wednesday.

I'm afraid no one here can say what may have been seen or not seen on the scan and it really is about sitting tight for now.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi
