Ongoing fatigue & general malaise

Is it normal to still feel exhausted & generally unwell 6 months after chemo & 3 months after radiotherapy? Still in lots of pain under arm & where tumour was removed ?

Trying to get on with life but feel grotty & nauseous & often spaced out?

Is this common please

  • Hello luckymum33 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the treatment you have had and how you are feeling in yourself since.

It isn't unusual to feel the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy for several months after the treatment has stopped.

Fatigue is a very common side effect and we have a section on managing and treating fatigue you may like to look at. Looking after yourself after treatment by eating a healthy diet, exercising and getting plenty of good sleep is really important to the recovery process.

If you haven't already done so, do let your doctor know how you are feeling so they can run some other checks to make sure nothing else is going on. They may also be able to recommend some things to help including medications if necessary to manage the pain and nausea.

After surgery some people are left with nerve pain so again do discuss this with your doctor so they can assess you.

I hope you are feeling better soon. Do get back if needed, we also have our helpline open mon-fri 9-5 ( closed bank holidays) on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
