Could not have a MRI

Hello,

l was recently diagnosed with Breast cancer. I met with the consultant who gave me the following information..
Left Axillary core shows a mucinous carcinoma ER +(8/8) Her2 -
MDT advise additional imaging before treatment options can be
discussed as tumour appears mammographically occult. For MRI/CESM/CT.

I have had a mammogram and CT, both with contrast but I could not fit into the MRI due to my size. Do l have to ask for a MRI to be carried out on a wide bore machine or will l be told that the results from the other two investigations be enough?

Will l have long to wait before l hear back from my consultant ? It has been a week since the CT scan and l am feeling very anxious.

Thank You

  • Hi Doobre66 and thank you for your post

I'm sorry to read about your situation.

Your hospital specialist may gain enough information from the mammogram and CT that have been performed and say that the MRI is not necessary. If they still require an MRI then they will request one on an appropriate machine.

I appreciate waiting for results can be unsettling.  It's quite common for results to be discussed at a MDT meeting, made up of many different health professionals who will discuss what the next step may be in treating a condition.

t usually takes about 2-3 weeks to get the results of an investigation, this would include the results of a CT scan.  It seems that you've been waiting a week, so if by next week you have not heard you might want to let the doctor who referred you for the scan know.

Waiting for results is always an anxious time. Anxiety UK  has useful tips and advice on how to cope with these situations.
