Lobular Breast Cancer

I had my left breast removed in May 2023. Ac/T and Paritaxel chemo, radiotherapy done and endocrine treatment now, however now I have been told I have a 2cm tumour in my right neeastxand an area of significance that could be malignant or benign. I would rather a lumpectomy but a masectomy has been advised. Can a tumour grow 2cm in lobular during chemo? Also can a lumpectomy be done under local anesthesia?

Thanks

  • Thr cancer is Lobular Breast Cancer

  • Hi and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn of your situation, this must be a difficult time.

I imagine it was disappointing to find that you now have another breast lump. I'm not sure anyone can say when the 2nd lump appeared and whether or not it was during the chemotherapy, you had. It might be worth discussing this with the breast specialist or breast care nurse (CNS) as they know your situation.

The type of surgery that is recommended will depend on the size of the tumour and how much of the breast is affected. Often if cancer is found in more than one area of the breast a mastectomy is advised. In some situations when having a lumpectomy, it may be possible to have a local anaesthetic with sedation, but mostly a general anaesthetic would be recommended. Again, your breast specialist would be able to give you more information about this.

You may have seen this already but we do have information about lobular breast cancer on our website.

I hope this helps a little, do get back to us if you would like more information or support. You may prefer to speak with one of our nurses on the helpline. The freephone number to ring is 0808 800 4040  Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
