  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry you are experiencing pain this must be a difficult time for you.

I’m not sure if you are taking the Oramorph that you have been prescribed. Some people do get a little bit frightened about taking a morphine-based drug and worry that they are on a downward spiral but this is not always the case. But it can help to manage the pain.

Sometimes it can take a while to work, and the doses may have to be increased or the pain medication needs to be changed, but this has to be done under medical supervision. We have some information on our website on how pain can be managed.

I wonder if you have a Macmillan or palliative care nurse involved in your care.  Their area of expertise is in the management of cancer symptoms, such as pain and they provide emotional support to the patient and family. Your GP can make the referral to this team.

I hope this is of some use and your pain improves soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
