Pains three months after very targeted radiotherapy

I have lung Cancer, had a Labectomy on the right lung back in 2020 and had further surgery (Biopsy) in 2021 in the left lung. Based on the surgery, my oncologist was able to prescribe Sotorasib which has been very good and has kept the cancer at bay. Very recently there was some activity in my lower rib and it was decided that I should have five sessions of very targeted Radiotherapy. Now almost three months after the radiotherapy I am experiencing quite strong pains in the rib area and side area. My oncologist has now given me some strong pain killers, but tbh all they are doing is making me tired and a little nausea but not really helping with the pain.

  • Hello Xposure and I am sorry you are having problems with rib pain.

If the painkillers do not help the pain and give you other side effects then I would recommend talking to your doctor or specialist nurse (CNS) . They may be able to refer you to a symptom management specialist nurse or doctor (sometimes known as palliative care ) as they are specialists in pain and painkillers. Other types of painkillers can be used if needed, but they can assess you and get you started on something that will hopefully be more helpful to you.

Take care and I hope this all gets sorted for you soon. If you find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
