Ongoing symptoms now abnormal blood tests

Hi I was just looking for advice as to where to go next or what I should be asking my GP. I've been feeling unwell for a while and I've got extreme fatigue and weakness and really tired all the time now to the point I am struggling. I feel so unwell but finding it difficult to get any help. Prior to my issues I was a very active healthy 42 year old.

My recent blood results threw up quite a few abnormal results

WBC high 13.6

Red blood cells count low 4.29

Neutrophil count high  9.8

Mean cell haemoglobin high 33.1

Serum total immunoglobulin high 185.8

Plasma C reactive protein level abnormal 1mg/l

Renal profile plasma creatine level high 119

  • Hello Matty and thanks for your post

I’m sorry you are worried about your symptoms and can understand you wanting to find out more.

I'm afraid we are unable to diagnose or tell anyone if anything is the matter. Symptoms can have straightforward medical explanations.  But only a doctor can make a medical assessment as they are trained to assess symptoms and can arrange tests if they feel it’s necessary to try to find out what might be going on.

It sounds as if your GP has taken your symptoms seriously as they have sent you for blood tests. We always encourage people to go back to see their GP if their symptoms are persisting. You could also tell them how worried you are about  the possibility about having cancer and hopefully they will be able to put you at ease.

If you are having difficulty making an appointment with your GP do try and speak to NHS 111

I hope this is of some help. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
