Bile duct

Hi I wonder if someone can please help? My dad had portal vein embolisation with the hope to leading to liver resection. We were told my dad’s left portal vein contains significant thrombus and appears discontinuous over a long segment. As a result there appears to be a perfusional abnormality in the left lateral liver and as such they do not feel that surgery is technically feasible. Where I’m struggling to understand is why they can’t treat the portal vein thrombosis. Surely this can be dissolved so surgery can go ahead. I don’t like the idea of them just leaving this as surely it can be dangerous.
I'm so desperate to get answers as this is the only thing stopping the operation from going ahead. Any help you can provide will be very much appreciated.
Many thanks

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I think we spoke this morning about your dad. You said you are going to talk to his team so that you understand more about the decisions that have been made.

As you did this morning, do call us again once you have spoken to his team and have information about the next steps.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Sarah.
