Which one is wrong?

I had a colposcopy 6 months ago due to issues including irregular bleeding, a biopsy was done and I was given the all clear.

Roll on to March where I had my smear, they’ve picked up moderate changes (and hpv) so I’ve been referred for another coploscopy.

From reading I don’t think it’s possible that the changes happened in 6 months so which one is wrong? The biopsy 6 months ago or the smear?

  • Hello DinkyD33 and thanks for the post

I'm afraid as no one here is involved in your care we can't say what has happened in your situation.

The important thing now is that the cervical screening test has picked up the HPV and some abnormal cells and these need to be looked at in colposcopy. Depending on what they see they may wish to take a biopsy to check out the abnormal cells further to decide whether treatment is needed at this point to remove these abnormal areas, or just to monitor them.

At your appointment you can discuss your previous colposcopy and see if they can explain the results back then and what they think now.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,
