Prostate Cancer

Hello.

My partner has just been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer 3 days ago. It is at a very early stage and is slow growing. Consultant has also said it is curable and he will go to leave a normal life. He will be doing a 5 day course of radiotherapy which is 90% change success rate.

We are due to go on holiday 1st May for 7 nights We have been really looking forward to it and he really wants to go still. He questioned this with the consultant and he said he can't see it making any difference and to have his holiday or not have his holiday it was up to my partner.

Since then he has got it into his head that the consultant was just being nice and trying to keep him calm I have told him a consultant wouldn't lie about that. My head is all over the place and I am trying so hard to keep him positive but its draining as awful as that sounds.

He said he will ring hospital on Monday and speak to a nurse to get reassurance. If the consultant has told him to take his holiday before his treatment surely that is a good thing, no?

Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

Hopefully your partner has been able to speak to the nurse and the hospital and can be reassured by what they say.

I am sure if the consultant felt that your partner needed to start radiotherapy  straight away I am sure that they would have told him. You have also said that it is slow growing cancer so I would be reassured by that.

If you would like to ring and talk through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to get back to us.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
