After lletz

I had lletz procedure around 2 weeks ago, for the past 4 days I’ve been experiencing intense thrush symptoms, tried to contact gp and gynae outpatients at my hospital to get some advice but haven’t been able to get through. Is it okay to use over the counter creams/ treatments for thrush?

I’ve also been confused by some of the information, I’ve read some places you can’t have a bath for 4-6 weeks but other sites are saying it’s fine?
Is this to do with what you use in the bath?

I have huge anxiety regarding infection as I’ve previously had sepsis and it almost killed me so I’m doing my best to follow the advice but it all seems very unclear.
thank you in advance!

  • Hello Klaraa, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry you are now dealing with thrush and feel the information out there is confusing. Do read the Cancer Research UK page on the LLetz procedure as this is up-to-date guidance and Jo's trust, the cervical cancer charity, also has some good clear information.

I would recommend you try and get a GP appointment but I appreciate this can take time to come around. It may be worth talking to your pharmacist or contacting the unit where you have the LLetz procedure.

The bath is more about not taking long baths which could disrupt healing, as well as what you put in it. So short baths or showers are ideal.

Take care Klaraa and if you want to talk anything through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
