breast cancer question

Hello, thank you for your replies to my message, this is a great help knowing that I have people to talk to. I I have just left the nhs after 22 years service and have gone self employed. I am therefore, in a sticky situation of if I don't work I don't get paid, I have my mortgage to pay, plus all other bills. Therefore, my question is... is it possible to carry on working if/when I have to have chemo' or other treatments? My work is not physically strenuous.  This is probably a very tricky question, but I'm looking online for answers and its all so confusing. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

It is difficult to say whether you will be able to work, as everyone is so different in how they are with treatment side effects. It can often be the same as seeing how it goes. We have information on our website if you haven't seen it already on everyday life with chemotherapy.

You could move this post to the 'living with cancer' thread and see what forum users say, but it can be incredibly individual.

The financial effects of cancer can be difficult, Macmillan has some good information and a benefits advice team if useful.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Sarah.
