Feeling unwell

I finished chemotherapy last march, radiotherapy last May and herceptin injections February this year. I'm still getting episodes of feeling unwell, exhaustion, nausea and pain. Is this normal? I've got my 3 month appointment with my oncologist on Monday and had bloods done yesterday but just need my mind  putting at ease that how I feel is to be expected.

  • Hello Dottie-Dora and thanks for posting

I'm sorry we haven't been able to get back to you sooner but the nurses don't work over the weekend.

I hope you appointment with your oncologist went/goes well today.

Side effects vary between patients and for some it can take a while after treatment finishes to start beginning to feel better, as it really can take its toll on the body and mind.

Likewise with anyone patients can too pick up viruses and other illness going around and feel under the weather and sometimes it can be difficult to know what symptoms are being caused by.

The best thing to do when symptoms are ongoing is to let your doctor know so they can assess you. They can run tests to check everything out as well as recommending things that may be able to ease things whilst they find out more.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi

  • Hi Naomi. Thank you for getting back to me. Oncology appointment went ok. Follow up in a few months.

I've been to my GP this morning about my symptoms, as I've also been getting stomach pains. Because of my history she's sent me up to the hospital. So I'm currently sat waiting in medical emergency care to be seen.
